Procedure
This procedure is accomplished by the introduction of a chin prosthesis
above the chin bone, below or immediately above the periosteum.
By definition, augmentation in the anterior, lateral or inferior projection
of the chin is considered chin augmentation. The material most commonly
used due to its pliability and durability is solid silicone or silastic,
although many other materials have been used such as bone, titanium,
tantalum, gold alloys etc.
No Scars
Chin augmentation is one of the easiest and at the same time, most exacting
cosmetic surgical procedure undertaken on the face. For the past
several years and, thanks to the modification of the surgical approach,
now, almost universally performed through the retro-labial space, chin
enhancement ha become an scar less and common companion to other face
and nose procedures. When adequately performed, chin augmentation
carries a very low incidence of infection.
No Pain
Post-operative pain is quite bearable, requiring only minimal analgesics
and the result achieved is often spectacular. Chin dressing is
no longer necessary since there is no external incision. Fixation
tape is applied for two or three days to prevent displacement os the
the prosthesis. In most cases, normal eating will be allowed in
24 hours
